What is Arizona Trail Day? Arizona Trail Day is envisioned as a day where trail users spend time enjoying Arizona’s across the state path - the Arizona Trail. The first year goal is for trail users to collectively traverse 202 miles, or 25% of the Arizona Trail. It is hoped that an increasing percentage is attained each future year until 100% is achieved. Who can participate in Arizona Trail Day? All non-motorized trail users, including equestrians, hikers, runners and mountain bicyclists, are encouraged to participate. But please register by September 17, either by snail mail or via the web - details for registering can be found here. What about my family and guests while I am on the Arizona Trail? Registered AZT Day participants and their families are welcome to register and attend the Members Rendezvous. So while you are on the AZT on September 29th, your registered family and guests will have lots to do at the event epicenter at Mormon Lake Lodge. Is there a fee to participate? Of course anyone can use the Arizona Trail anytime for free. But for miles to count towards the mileage goal (202 miles for 2007), the Arizona Trail Association is asking participants to raise a minimum of $100 per person or, for groups of up to eight people, a group total of $400. All funds raised go to the ATA in its quest to finish building the trail and for ongoing maintenance. The ATA is a 501 (c) (3) charitable organization. Can I spend time on the Arizona Trail prior to AZT Day and have it count towards the AZT Day goal? Yes, you can hike early! You may travel the section you choose, by your choice of modes, any time in September. Then report in to the ATA, either prior to or at the Members Rendezvous. All participants must register with the ATA to be eligible for prizes. Prize recipients must be present at the Members Rendezvous to win. Another good reason to spend the entire weekend at the ATA Members Rendezvous. As a current ATA member do I also have to participate in AZT Day if I am attending the Members Rendezvous? No, AZT Day participation is optional for those attending the Members Rendezvous. But, of course your pledge to an AZT Day participant is encouraged if you don’t participate. Where on the trail is the event? The choice is up to each participant. There are 807 miles to choose from. To aid participants with distance and access information in the vicinity of Mormon Lake Lodge, please see information supplied at the trail access page. How do I get to and from the trail? It is the responsibility of each AZT Day participant to be fully self-supported on the trail. And, it is each participant’s responsibility to get to and from the trail. But it is hoped each participant will end their adventure by joining ATA members and other participants on Saturday afternoon, September 29th at the Mormon Lake Lodge for a grand celebration as part of the ATA Members Rendezvous. What do I get by being an AZT Day participant? First, an enjoyable experience on a beautiful, scenic long distance trail. The
Arizona Trail has been officially declared a "state scenic trail" by the Arizona
Legislature and deemed a "state treasure" by the Governor. If you have any other questions, please contact the ATA using one of the methods listed at the bottom of this page. |
