National Scenic Trail Status

This page contains information and links concerning the ongoing effort to obtain National Scenic Trail status for the Arizona Trail. The Arizona Trail Association considers this a very important designation. It will provide additional protection for the trail, as well as providing national recognition.

National Scenic Trail Senate Bill

Senate Bill 1304 was introduced by Senators John McCain and Jon Kyl in May of 2007. It was titled the 'Arizona National Scenic Trail Act'. A PDF file of the bill can be viewed here.

National Scenic Trail House Bill

House Bill 2297 was introduced by Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords in May of 2007. It was titled the 'Arizona National Scenic Trail Act'. A PDF file of the bill can be viewed here.

National Parks Service Testimony

U.S. Department of the Interior Deputy Director Daniel Wenk gave a speech to the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources on September 11, 2007. A copy of that speech is available on the ATA website.
